Scrap my car in Brigstock: how it works
Scrap car collection in Brigstock takes four steps. You enter the registration and postcode on our instant price page, see the price and accept it, then add your contact details. We then phone you to agree a collection time that suits you, come out with one of our recovery trucks, check your ID, load the car and pay you by bank transfer.
There is no fee for collection and nothing to drive anywhere. That matters in a village like Brigstock, where the nearest scrap yard is not on your doorstep and an old car may not be fit to drive on the A6116 anyway.

Who scraps cars in Brigstock?
Most of our Brigstock jobs fall into a few familiar groups:
- Families with an older second car that has done its time.
- People clearing a car after a relative has stopped driving or passed away. We keep it simple and go at your pace.
- Owners of a car that has sat in a garage or barn so long it is not worth bringing back.
- Anyone who has bought something newer and does not want the bother of selling the old one privately.
Whatever the reason, the process is the same, and you deal with us directly from price to payment.
What affects scrap car prices in Brigstock?
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Weight of the vehicle | Scrap metal is priced per tonne, so heavier cars are worth more |
| Current scrap metal price | It moves up and down with the market |
| Make and model | Some vehicles are worth more than their weight alone |
| Complete or not | Engine, gearbox, catalytic converter and wheels all count |
| Keys and V5C | Make the sale cleaner and can affect the price |
| Location | Where the car is affects the collection |
We do not publish figures because the scrap price changes. The online price looks up your vehicle from the registration and stands as long as the car is complete and as described. For the detail, read how scrap car prices work or the scrap car collection costs guide.
Getting a truck to your car
Brigstock has its share of tight spots. Cars end up on gravel drives, behind gates, on verges along narrow lanes, or in garages too low for a normal tow. Our trucks come from our sister company, Rapid Recovery Corby, so we can bring a beavertail, a spec lift or a van with dollies and skates depending on the job. Tell us how the car is parked when we ring and we will plan around it.
Bank transfer, not cash
We pay by bank transfer when the car is loaded. Paying cash for scrap metal, scrap cars included, has been illegal since the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. It is a quick way to spot a buyer who is not working legally: if they offer cash, walk away.
The law also requires us to check the seller's name and address. Please have a driving licence or passport plus proof of address ready.
Your paperwork after collection
Every car we collect goes to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility. The ATF issues a Certificate of Destruction, normally within 7 days, and notifies the DVLA. Keep the certificate as proof the car is no longer your responsibility. Our guide to the Certificate of Destruction explains what it is and why it matters.
A few things to sort yourself:
- Hand the V5C to us and keep the yellow slip.
- Cancel your insurance once the car has gone.
- Expect a refund of any full months of tax once the DVLA knows.
- Transfer or retain any private number plate with the DVLA before collection, as it is lost once the car is scrapped.
Before we arrive
Empty the car properly. Check the glovebox, door pockets, boot and under the spare wheel. Take out dashcams, sat navs and parking permits, and cancel any toll or parking accounts linked to the registration.

Questions people ask
How much will I get to scrap my car in Brigstock?
It depends mainly on the car's weight and the current scrap metal price, plus its make, model and condition. Enter your reg and postcode online for an instant price.
Is scrap car collection in Brigstock really free?
Yes. We do not charge to collect a scrap car from Brigstock, whether it is on a drive, a lane or in a garage.
How will I be paid?
By bank transfer when we collect. We never pay cash, because the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 makes it illegal.
Do I need the V5C logbook?
It helps, but it is not essential. Without it you can still scrap the car with photo ID and proof of ownership and address.
Will my car be scrapped legally?
Yes. Every car goes to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility, which issues a Certificate of Destruction and tells the DVLA.
Can I keep my private plate?
Yes, but you must transfer or retain it with the DVLA before the car is collected. Once the car is scrapped, the plate is lost.
