Failed MOT in Brigstock: what now?
Sell your MOT failure in Brigstock without fixing it first. Many owners in the village get the failure sheet back from the garage, see the list of work and decide the car is not worth the money. That is exactly where we come in. Get an instant price online, accept it, and we come and collect.
A car that has failed its MOT usually cannot be driven on the road unless it still has a valid certificate from before, and you should not take that risk on the A6116 with a serious fault. Our collection is free, so you do not have to move it anywhere.

When scrapping beats repairing
Some failures are cheap. A bulb, a wiper blade or a tyre is rarely a reason to scrap. Other failures change the maths completely. Scrapping is often the sensible choice when the car needs:
- Welding for rust on structural parts such as sills or subframe mounts.
- A new clutch or gearbox.
- A head gasket.
- Several big items at once, on top of advisories that have been piling up for years.
If the repair costs more than the car is worth, there is little point putting the money in. Our guide on whether to scrap or repair walks through the decision.
A common Brigstock story
Village cars often live hard lives. They cover long miles on country roads, sit outside through the winter and get used for short runs into Corby or Thrapston. By the time an older car reaches its later MOTs, the advisories stack up: corroded brake pipes, worn suspension, rust on the underside. Eventually a test turns those into failures. If that is where you are, we can take it off your hands.
How much will you pay for an MOT failure?
An MOT failure is priced like any other scrap car. The main factors are weight and the current scrap metal price, then make, model, completeness, keys, V5C and location. An MOT failure that still has all its main parts is priced the same way as a car with a fresh certificate, because what we pay for is the vehicle, not the test.
Use your registration and postcode on our price page for an instant figure. The price stands if the car is complete and as described. If something has been removed before we arrive, such as the catalytic converter, we tell you before loading and you can decline. Our MOT failure costs guide explains it in more depth.
What to have ready on collection day
| Item | Needed? |
|---|---|
| Photo ID (driving licence or passport) | Yes, by law |
| Proof of address | Yes, by law |
| V5C logbook | If you have it |
| Keys | If you have them |
| MOT failure sheet | Useful, not required |
If you have lost the logbook, you can still sell. Read our guide to scrapping a car without a logbook.
Payment and paperwork
We pay by bank transfer when we collect. We do not pay cash, because the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 bans cash payments for scrap metal. Your car goes to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility, which issues a Certificate of Destruction and tells the DVLA. Any full months of road tax are refunded automatically, and you cancel the insurance yourself.
If the car has no tax and you have been keeping it off the road, you may have a SORN in place. Once it has been scrapped, a SORN is no longer needed.
Clearing the car out
Before we arrive, check the glovebox, door pockets, boot and under the spare wheel. Take any dashcam or sat nav. If you have a private plate you want to keep, transfer or retain it with the DVLA first.
Why not sell it privately?
You can try, but a car with a fresh failure sheet is hard to sell. Buyers knock the price down, ask for test drives you cannot legally give on public roads and often never turn up. Selling to us skips all of that. You get a price on screen, one booked visit and payment by bank transfer when the car goes.

Questions people ask
Can I sell a car that has failed its MOT in Brigstock?
Yes. We buy MOT failures as they are, with free collection and payment by bank transfer.
Do I need to repair it before selling?
No. We buy the car in its current state, so there is no need to spend money on repairs first.
Can I drive my MOT failure to you?
You do not need to. We collect free from your home in Brigstock, and driving a car with dangerous faults on the road is not worth the risk.
Is an MOT failure worth less as scrap?
Not usually. The price is based mainly on weight, the scrap metal price and whether the car is complete, not on the MOT result.
What if my car's MOT expired months ago?
That is fine. We buy cars with expired MOTs, no tax or a SORN in place.
Do I need my failure certificate?
No. It can help us understand the car, but it is not required to sell it.
