Non-runner car collection that actually turns up with the right kit
A car that will not move is a different job from one you can drive onto a truck. Plenty of scrap buyers will quote you, then turn up and find they cannot shift it. Our non-runner car collection in Corby and Kettering is done with our own recovery trucks, so we arrive equipped for cars that do not start, do not roll and are parked somewhere awkward.
If you have been searching for non-runner car buyers or dead car removal, you are in the right place. We price it online, collect it free and pay you by bank transfer.

What counts as a non-runner?
Anything that cannot be driven onto a truck. Common examples we collect:
- Cars with a flat or dead battery that nobody has bothered to fix
- Seized engines, or engines with major faults
- Flat tyres, or tyres that have gone soft after years of standing
- Seized brakes, where the wheels will not turn at all
- Cars sat on a driveway, in a garage or on a farm for years
- Unfinished project cars with parts off
- Cars on a space saver or missing a wheel
How do you move a car that won't roll?
This is where our sister company, Rapid Recovery Corby, comes in. Our collections use its trucks and equipment:
| Situation | How we deal with it |
|---|---|
| Will not start but rolls | Winched onto a beavertail transporter |
| Flat tyres | Winched on, or lifted with a spec lift tow truck |
| Seized brakes or wheels | Dollies and skates under the wheels |
| Low garage or tight spot | The van with dollies and skates for awkward access |
| Two non-runners at one address | Some trucks carry one and tow another |
If access is tricky, tell us when we call to book. A photo on WhatsApp helps us bring the right truck the first time.
How to sell a non-runner
- Enter your reg and postcode on our instant price page.
- See your price on screen straight away. No contact details needed.
- Accept it if you are happy, and add your name, phone number and email.
- George calls to book a free collection at a time that suits you. Tell him then if the wheels don't turn or anything is missing.
- We collect and pay by bank transfer once we have checked your ID.
The price stands as long as the car is complete and as described. If something is different, we tell you before we load and you can say no.
Is a car that won't start still worth anything?
Yes. A scrap price is based mainly on the car's weight and the current scrap metal price, plus make, model and completeness. A dead engine does not change the weight, so a non-runner can still be worth a fair amount, especially if the engine, gearbox, catalytic converter and wheels are all still there.
Our non-runner cost guide explains what lowers and raises the price for a car that does not run. For the bigger picture, read how scrap car prices work.
Cars that have been sat for years
Some of the cars we collect have not moved in a long time. The tax lapsed, a SORN went in, and the car became part of the furniture. Sometimes the logbook has gone missing along the way. That is all fine:
- No MOT or tax: we still buy it. A scrapped car does not need a SORN.
- No V5C: you can scrap it with proof of ID and proof of ownership. See our guide on scrapping a car without a logbook.
- Belonged to someone else in the family: if a relative has stopped driving or passed away, we can talk you through what to have ready and work around you.
Where we collect non-runners
We collect from driveways, garages, roadsides, car parks, farm yards and business premises across Corby, Kettering and the villages around them. Garages that want customers' non-runners moved off the forecourt can call us too. See non-runner collection in Corby, Kettering, Gretton, Brigstock and Geddington, or find your village on our areas page.
Village lanes and estate car parks are part of the job. We bring the truck that suits the access.
Garages and landlords with abandoned non-runners
We also hear from garages holding a customer's car that was never collected after a failed repair, and from people on new-build estates where a dead car has been left in a bay. If the car is not yours, you cannot sell it to us. The registered keeper, or someone who can show they own it, needs to deal with the sale. If they agree to sell, we can collect from wherever the car is parked.
Paperwork and what happens next
By law we check the seller's name and address, so have photo ID and proof of address ready. Hand over the V5C if you have it and keep the yellow slip. Take your belongings out first, including the glovebox, boot and under the spare wheel.
Every non-runner goes to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility, which issues a Certificate of Destruction, normally within 7 days, and tells the DVLA. Any full months of tax left are refunded automatically. Cancel the insurance yourself. If the car has a private plate you want to keep, transfer or retain it with the DVLA before we collect. Our guide on how to scrap a car covers every step.
A few tips before collection day
- Check the access. If the car is in a garage, measure the height of the door and tell us. It helps us pick the right truck.
- Clear a path. Move bins, bikes and other cars if you can, so we have room to winch or skate the car out.
- Find the keys. Even if the car will not start, keys help us unlock the steering and move it.
- Pump up the tyres if it is easy. Not essential, but it can make loading quicker.
- Let the neighbours know. If the car is on a shared drive or tight estate parking, a quick word helps on the day.
Paid by bank transfer
We pay by bank transfer when we collect. Paying cash for scrap cars is illegal under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013.

Questions people ask
Do you buy cars that don't run?
Yes. We buy non-runners of any age, make or model and collect them free with our own recovery trucks.
Can you move a car with seized wheels?
Yes. We use dollies and skates under the wheels so the car can be moved and loaded without rolling.
Can you get a car out of a garage?
Usually, yes. Our van with dollies and skates is used for low garages and tight spots. Tell us about the access when we call.
Is a non-runner worth less than a car that drives?
Not always by much. Scrap value is mainly about weight and completeness, so a complete non-runner can still be worth a fair amount.
Can you collect two non-runners at once?
Often, yes. Some of our trucks carry one car and tow a second.
The car has been on a SORN for years. Can I still sell it?
Yes. We buy cars with no MOT or tax, and a scrapped car does not need a SORN.
