Empty the van first

This is the most important step for a van. Before we arrive, please take out:

• Tools, materials and stock
• Racking, ladders and anything stored on the roof
• Paperwork, receipts and anything with customer details
• Dashcams, trackers you own, sat navs and parking permits

Check the cab, door pockets, glovebox and the load area. Once the van goes to the scrap facility, anything left inside goes with it. If the van is signwritten with your business details, mention it when we call.

Vans that don't run, and awkward yards

Our collections use our own recovery trucks from our sister company, Rapid Recovery Corby, including beavertail tilt-and-slide transporters with winches and spec lift tow trucks. A van with a dead engine, flat tyres or seized brakes can still be loaded. If the van is in a tight yard, behind a gate or on a soft farm track, tell us when we call so we bring the right truck. Scrapping a pickup or 4x4

The law requires us to check the seller's name and address, so have photo ID and proof of address ready. The van goes to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility, which issues a Certificate of Destruction, normally within 7 days, and tells the DVLA. Keep the certificate for your records. Any full months of vehicle tax left are refunded automatically. Cancel the insurance yourself, and cancel any toll or parking accounts linked to the reg. Replacing a work van

If you are buying a new van, you may be offered a part exchange. For a van that is tired, failed its MOT or does not run, a part exchange value can be very low or nothing at all. Getting an instant scrap price first gives you a figure to compare. If the scrap price is better, sell the old van to us and buy the new one separately.

Timing helps too. Tell us when the new van is due and we can book the collection for after you have moved your tools across, so you are never without a van to work from.
