How the instant price works

The price tool at the top of this page turns a few details into a real figure for your car. Here is what happens at each stage:

1. Enter your registration and postcode. We use the registration to look up the vehicle, including its make, model and size. The postcode tells us where it is.
2. See your price. The figure appears on screen straight away, worked out from your vehicle's weight and where it is. No contact details and no questions about the condition of the car.
3. Accept or walk away. If you are not happy, close the page. There is nothing more to do.
4. Add your details to accept. If you accept, give your name, phone number and email. You can also tick a box if you want reminders about your price.
5. George calls you. He books your free collection and talks through anything missing from the car, such as the catalytic converter or wheels.

See your price first, no sign-up

You see your price before we ask for anything else. There is no sign-up and no need to give a phone number or email just to find out what your car is worth.

We only ask for your name, phone number and email if you accept the price. George uses them to call you and book the collection, and we send you a record of the price you accepted. Not ready to decide? You can ask us to email you the price instead, with an optional reminder before it runs out.

What happens after you accept

Once you accept, George calls you to agree a collection time that suits you. If anything is missing from the car, such as the catalytic converter or wheels, he talks it through on that call, before collection. Same-day collection is often possible, though we can't promise it every time. We collect from driveways, roadsides, car parks, garages, garage forecourts, farms and business premises across Corby, Kettering and the surrounding towns and villages, and further afield by arrangement.

Collection is free. On the day, we check your ID, check the car, load it and pay you instantly by bank transfer. The car goes to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility, which issues a Certificate of Destruction and tells the DVLA. Our guide on how to scrap a car legally covers each step.

Will the final price change on the day?

The price stands as long as the car is complete and as described. It only changes if something is different when we arrive. Common examples:

• The catalytic converter has been removed.
• The engine, gearbox or wheels are missing.
• The car is a different vehicle or has been altered since you got the price.

If anything is different, we explain why before we load and you can say no. Telling George about anything missing when he calls is the simplest way to make sure the figure holds. Our guide on how scrap car prices work explains what each factor does.

What to have ready

To make collection day quick and straightforward:

• Photo ID, such as a driving licence or passport.
• Proof of address.
• The V5C logbook, if you have it. If not, proof of ownership. See scrapping without a logbook.
• The keys, including any spare.
• An empty car, with the glovebox, door pockets, boot and spare wheel well checked.

If you want to keep a personalised number plate, transfer or retain it with the DVLA before the car is scrapped.
