Scrap car collection in Corby, done properly
Every car reaches a point where it costs more to keep than it is worth. When yours gets there, our scrap car collection in Corby and Kettering is the simplest way to move it on. You get a price online, we collect it free, and the money goes into your account by bank transfer before the truck leaves.
We Buy Scrap Cars Corby is run locally by George Mitchell. We are licensed to collect scrap vehicles, and every car we take goes to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) for scrapping. You get a Certificate of Destruction, the DVLA is told, and you are no longer responsible for the car.

Is it time to scrap my car?
People usually decide to scrap a car for one of a few reasons:
- The repair bill is too big. A failed MOT with structural rust, a worn gearbox or a blown head gasket can cost more than the car is worth.
- It has stopped running and nobody wants to spend money finding out why.
- It has been sat for years on a drive or in a garage and is now in the way.
- It was a second car that is no longer needed.
- It belonged to a relative who has stopped driving or passed away, and the family needs it dealt with.
If you are not sure whether to fix it or let it go, our guide on scrap or repair sets out the questions to ask.
How our scrap car collection works
- Get your instant price. Enter your reg and postcode on the instant price page. We look up the car from the registration.
- See your price. The price appears on screen straight away. No contact details needed.
- Accept and add your details. If you are happy, accept it and add your name, phone number and email.
- George calls you to book. He agrees a collection time that suits you and talks through anything missing from the car. Same-day collection is sometimes possible, but we will tell you honestly when we can come.
- We collect and pay. We check your ID, take the keys and V5C, load the car and pay you by bank transfer.
The price stands as long as the car is complete and as described. If something is different, for example the catalytic converter has gone, we explain before we load and you can say no.
Where we collect from
Collection is free wherever the car is parked within our area:
- Driveways and front gardens
- Roadsides and estate parking bays
- Car parks
- Private garages and garage forecourts
- Farms and yards
- Business premises and industrial estates
We are based in Corby and cover Kettering and the towns and villages around both. See scrap car collection in Corby, Kettering, Weldon, Rothwell and Desborough, or browse all areas we cover.
Our trucks make awkward collections straightforward
Our collections are done with our own recovery trucks from our sister company, Rapid Recovery Corby. We have spec lift tow trucks, beavertail tilt-and-slide transporters and a van with dollies and skates for low garages and seized wheels. If your car has flat tyres, will not start or is parked tight against a wall, we can still move it. Some of our trucks carry one car and tow a second, so two cars can go together. If your car does not run at all, our non-runner page explains more.
How much is my scrap car worth?
We do not publish figures, because scrap prices move. What we can tell you is what goes into the price:
| What we look at | Why |
|---|---|
| Weight | Scrap is priced per tonne |
| Current scrap metal price | Prices follow the market |
| Make and model | Some models are worth more than their weight |
| Completeness | Engine, gearbox, catalytic converter and wheels |
| Keys and V5C | A complete handover is simpler |
| Location | Where we are collecting from |
Our scrap car collection cost guide explains each factor, and the guide on how scrap car prices work gives the background. The quickest answer is always to get your instant price.
Why we pay by bank transfer
The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 made it illegal to pay cash for scrap metal, including scrap cars. Any "cash for cars" buyer is breaking the law. We pay by bank transfer when we collect, so you have a record of the sale and the money arrives before we drive away.
What to have ready on collection day
The law requires us to check the seller's name and address, so please have:
- Photo ID, such as a driving licence or passport
- Proof of address
- The V5C logbook, if you have it, and the keys
Hand over the V5C with the car and keep the small yellow slip, the section for selling to the motor trade. No logbook? You can still scrap the car with proof of ID and proof of ownership. See our guide on scrapping a car without a logbook.
Before we arrive, empty the car. Check the glovebox, door pockets, boot and under the spare wheel. Take out dashcams, sat navs and parking permits, and cancel any toll or parking accounts linked to the registration.
After your car has gone
The ATF issues a Certificate of Destruction, normally within 7 days, and tells the DVLA. Keep the certificate safe. Any full months of vehicle tax left are refunded automatically. Cancel the insurance yourself. If you want to keep a private number plate, you must transfer or retain it with the DVLA before the car is scrapped, because once it is gone the plate is lost too. Our guide on the Certificate of Destruction has more detail.
Scrapping a relative's car
A lot of the cars we collect belonged to someone who has stopped driving, moved into care or passed away. It is rarely the first thing a family wants to deal with, and it can be hard to know where to start. The process is the same as any other scrap car, and we keep it calm and practical.
The person selling needs photo ID and proof of address. If the logbook is in another name or cannot be found, have whatever shows you are entitled to deal with the car, and tell us when we call so we can explain what will be needed. Check the car carefully for personal items before we come, as older owners often keep documents, glasses or keepsakes in the glovebox and door pockets. Take your time. We will fit the collection around you.
Scrap car collection or private sale?
If the car runs, has a fresh MOT and is worth more than its weight in metal, a private sale may get you more. If it needs work, has failed its MOT or does not run, private buyers are hard to find and time wasters are common. Scrapping is quick, the price is shown up front and the paperwork ends your responsibility for the car.
