We buy scrap cars in Corby, Kettering and the villages around
If you have typed "scrap my car Corby" into your phone, you probably have a car on the drive that has reached the end of the road. Maybe it failed its MOT, maybe it stopped starting last winter, or maybe it was a second car nobody uses any more. We Buy Scrap Cars Corby is a local scrap car buyer run by George Mitchell. We give you a price online in a couple of minutes, collect the car free and pay you by bank transfer when we load it.
We are not a call centre passing your details on to whoever bids. The person who calls you to book the collection is the business that turns up with the truck.

How does the instant price work?
The whole point of the site is that you can get a real price without ringing round scrap yards. It takes four short steps on our instant price page:
- Enter your reg and postcode. We look up the vehicle from the registration, so we know the make, model and roughly what it weighs. The postcode tells us where it is.
- See your price on screen. Straight away, with no contact details needed and no questions about the condition of the car.
- Accept it and add your details. Your name, phone number and email, so George can call you.
- George calls to book. He rings to talk through anything missing, such as the catalytic converter or wheels, and book a free collection at a time that suits you, then pay you by bank transfer when we collect.
The price stands as long as the car is complete and as described. If something is different on the day, for example the catalytic converter has been taken off, we explain why before we load and you are free to say no.
What scrap car collection in Corby covers
We buy any scrap car, of any age, make or model, plus vans up to 3.5 tonnes, 4x4s and pickups. Typical cars we collect include:
- MOT failures where the repair bill is bigger than the car is worth. See MOT failures.
- Non-runners with a flat battery, seized engine, flat tyres or seized brakes. See non-runner collection.
- Accident damaged cars and insurance write-offs, including buy-backs and flood damaged cars. See damaged cars.
- Old vans from trades and small businesses. See scrap van collection.
- Cars with no MOT or no tax that have been on a SORN, high mileage cars and cars that have been sat for years.
- Cars with no V5C logbook, as long as you can show proof of ID and proof of ownership.
The full list is on our scrap car collection page, and the services overview explains each one.
Why do we pay by bank transfer and not cash?
Because the law says so. The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 makes it illegal to pay cash for scrap metal, and that includes scrap cars. Any company still offering cash for cars around Corby is breaking the law, which tells you something about how they handle the rest of the job.
We pay instantly by bank transfer when we collect. You see the money arrive before the truck leaves, and there is a clear record of who bought the car and what they paid.
What paperwork do I need to scrap my car?
By law we have to check the seller's name and address, so please have these ready when we arrive:
| What to have ready | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Photo ID (driving licence or passport) | We must check who is selling the car |
| Proof of address | We must record the seller's address |
| V5C logbook, if you have it | Hand it over with the car and keep the small yellow slip |
| Keys | Helps us load and can affect the price |
If the logbook is lost, you can still scrap the car with proof of ID and proof of ownership. Our guide to scrapping a car without a logbook explains how.
If you have a private number plate you want to keep, transfer or retain it with the DVLA before we collect. Once the car is scrapped, the plate is lost.
The ATF and your Certificate of Destruction
Only an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) can legally scrap a car. Every car we buy goes to a licensed ATF, which issues a Certificate of Destruction and tells the DVLA. The certificate normally comes within 7 days. Keep it as proof that you are no longer responsible for the vehicle.
Once the DVLA knows the car has been scrapped, any full months of vehicle tax left are refunded automatically. You should cancel the insurance yourself. Our guide to the Certificate of Destruction covers this step by step, and how to scrap a car walks through the whole process.
We hold a waste carrier licence and a scrap metal collector's licence, so the car is moved and handed over legally from your drive to the ATF.
Areas we collect from
We are based in Corby and collect across the town, from Kingswood and Lodge Park to Oakley Vale, Danesholme, Beanfield and the industrial estates. We also cover Kettering and the towns and villages around both. Popular areas include:
- Corby and Priors Hall Park
- Kettering and Barton Seagrave
- Weldon, Great Oakley and Stanion
- Rothwell and Desborough
- Gretton, Cottingham and Brigstock
See every town and village on our areas page. If you are further out, ask, as we can often collect by arrangement.
Why our trucks make non-runners easy
Our collections are done with our own recovery trucks from our sister company, Rapid Recovery Corby. That matters if your car does not move. We have spec lift tow trucks, beavertail tilt-and-slide transporters with winches, and a van with dollies and skates for low garages, tight spots and seized wheels.
So a car with flat tyres on a gravel drive, a hatchback stuck at the back of a garage or a car that has not turned a wheel in years is not a problem. Some of our trucks carry one car and tow a second, so if you have two cars to go, both can often leave together.
What decides how much my scrap car is worth?
Mainly weight, because scrap is priced per tonne, and the current scrap metal price. Make and model matter too, along with whether the car is complete (engine, gearbox, catalytic converter, wheels), whether there are keys and a V5C, and where it is. Our cost guides and the guide to how scrap car prices work explain this in more detail. Not sure whether to fix it or scrap it? Read scrap or repair.
