Scrap car collection in Barton Seagrave, explained
Scrap car collection in Barton Seagrave takes three steps. Get your instant price by entering the registration and postcode, accept the price, and we call to book a time. We collect free from your drive or the street outside and pay by bank transfer when the car is loaded.
We are local scrap car buyers based in Corby, and Barton Seagrave is on our regular patch on the Kettering side. You do not need to find a scrap yard, arrange a tow or drive a car that may not be safe.

When does it make sense to scrap a car?
For most Barton Seagrave households, the moment comes when the car costs more to keep than it is worth. That might be:
- A repair quote that is higher than the car's value.
- Insurance and tax on a car that hardly gets used.
- A replacement car arriving and the old one blocking the drive.
- A car left behind when a family member moves away or stops driving.
If you are on the fence, read our guide on whether to scrap or repair.
Car scrappers who check the details first
When you enter your registration, we look up the vehicle, so the price is based on the actual make, model and weight. We ask a few simple questions about whether it is complete and whether you have keys and the V5C. That is how we can give you a price on screen rather than a vague estimate on the phone.
What changes the price?
| Factor | Effect |
|---|---|
| Vehicle weight | The main driver, as scrap is priced per tonne |
| Scrap metal price | Goes up and down with the market |
| Make and model | Identified from the registration |
| Engine, gearbox, catalytic converter, wheels | A complete car keeps its value |
| Keys and V5C | Both help |
| Postcode | Part of the calculation |
The scrap car collection cost guide explains each of these. Your price stays as agreed while the car is complete and as described. If something differs, for example the catalytic converter has gone, we explain before loading and you can decline.
What happens on collection day
- We arrive at the agreed time and check your photo ID and proof of address, which the law requires.
- You hand over the V5C if you have it and keep the yellow slip.
- We load the car onto the truck.
- We pay you by bank transfer.
- The car goes to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility.
After the car has gone
The ATF issues a Certificate of Destruction, normally within 7 days, and tells the DVLA. Keep the certificate as proof you are no longer responsible for the vehicle. Our certificate of destruction guide explains it. Any full months of vehicle tax left are refunded automatically, and you should cancel the insurance yourself.
We hold a waste carrier licence and a scrap metal collector's licence, so the car is handled legally from your drive to the ATF.
Getting the car ready
- Empty the glovebox, door pockets, boot and the space under the spare wheel.
- Take dashcams, sat navs and parking permits.
- Cancel any toll or parking accounts linked to the registration.
- Transfer or retain a private plate with the DVLA before collection, or it will be lost.
Bank transfer, not cash
The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 made it illegal to pay cash for scrap cars. Anyone still offering cash is breaking the law. We pay by bank transfer at collection, every time.
Scrapping a car for a family member
We are often asked to collect a car on behalf of a parent or grandparent who has stopped driving. That is fine. Call us first and we will explain what ID and proof of ownership will help, and agree whose bank account the payment should go to. If the logbook has gone missing, our guide to scrapping a car without a logbook explains what you need instead.
Two cars on one drive
If the household is clearing two old cars at once, mention both when you call. Some of our trucks carry one car and tow a second, so both can often go in one visit.
