Non-runner car buyers in Stanion
A car that will not start can feel stuck in more ways than one. You cannot drive it to a garage or a scrap yard, and most buyers will not touch it. Our non-runner collection in Stanion is built for exactly this. We buy the car where it sits and load it ourselves, free of charge.

Cars we collect that cannot move
We collect all kinds of dead cars around Stanion, including:
- Cars with flat batteries that will not hold a charge.
- Engines that have seized or blown.
- Cars with no keys.
- Cars sitting on flat or perished tyres.
- Brakes or handbrakes seized on after a long stand.
- Cars left in a garage, barn or outbuilding for years.
Barns, outbuildings and long-term storage
Stanion has its share of farm buildings and older properties with outbuildings, and that is where many long-stored cars end up. A car pushed into a barn ten years ago with plans to restore it is a familiar sight. These cars are often on flat tyres with the brakes locked solid and no battery.
We plan for that. Ask us about access when you book and we will bring what is needed to get the car out without damaging the building around it.
The kit we use
Our collections are carried out with trucks from Rapid Recovery Corby, George's vehicle recovery company. That gives us:
- Beavertail tilt-and-slide transporters with winches to pull a dead car up onto the bed.
- Spec lift tow trucks.
- A van with dollies and skates for awkward spots, low garages and seized wheels.
Skates slide under locked wheels so the car can be moved without dragging. Dollies lift one end so a car can be steered out of a tight corner.
On a narrow village street, we position the truck so it causes as little blockage as possible while we load. If a neighbour's car or a wheelie bin is in the way, a quick word before we arrive saves time for everyone.
What does a non-runner fetch?
A car does not need to run to be worth something. The main factor is weight, as scrap is priced per tonne, along with the current scrap metal price. We also look at the make and model, whether the engine, gearbox, catalytic converter and wheels are still fitted, whether you have keys and the V5C, and where the car is.
Not running is not a reason in itself for a lower price. Missing parts are. Cars left in barns sometimes have parts taken off over the years, so tell us honestly what is there. Our non-runner cost guide explains more.
Helpful details when booking
The more we know, the smoother the job. Tell us:
- Where the car is: drive, roadside, garage, barn or yard.
- Whether the wheels turn or are locked.
- Whether the tyres hold air.
- Whether you have the keys.
- What the access is like, including gates, low roofs or soft ground.
We agree a collection time that suits you. Same-day collection is often possible, but not promised.
A car that belonged to someone else
Sometimes a non-runner belonged to a parent or relative who has passed away or moved into care. We know that clearing it can be emotional as well as practical. We keep it simple, and we can talk you through what ID and proof of ownership to bring. If the V5C cannot be found, our guide to scrapping a car without a logbook explains what we need.
Payment and the paperwork
We check photo ID and proof of address, as the law requires, then pay you by bank transfer once the car is loaded. It goes to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility, which issues a Certificate of Destruction and notifies the DVLA. Any full months of tax are refunded automatically.

Questions people ask
Do you buy non-running cars in Stanion?
Yes. We buy non-runners in Stanion, including cars with seized engines, flat batteries or no keys, and collect them free.
Can you get a car out of a barn?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the building, the access and whether the wheels turn, and we bring the right equipment.
What if the wheels are locked?
We use skates under locked wheels and dollies to lift one end, so the car can be moved without dragging.
Do I need the keys for a non-runner?
It helps, but it is not essential. Let us know when you get your price.
Will a non-runner get a lower price?
Not just because it does not run. Missing parts such as the catalytic converter reduce the price, so tell us what is fitted.
How do I pay for collection?
You do not. Collection is free, and we pay you by bank transfer when we load the car.
